AAD Author Spotlight: Interview with SA Price plus giveaway

For my second Authors After Dark Spotlight I give you the lady in charge, SA (Stella) Price!

Questions about AAD:
Have you attended Authors After Dark before or are you an AAD virgin like me?

LOL I have most definitely attended before. *wink*  (yes…the joy of asking the same question to every author lol)

What are you most looking forward to at AAD2012?

Well for me, it’s the hotel. They have been freaking awesome so far and knowing we have a top notch, classy company working with us that’s every excited about the event is awesome. I feel like it won’t be a hardship, and that is worth its weight in gold to me.

Which author(s) attending AAD2012 are you most looking forward to meeting?

A lot of them I have had the pleasure of meeting already, but it’s always nice to see a lot of them. I look forward to seeing Alexandra Ivy again this year, along with Jess Haines and Dakota Cassidy. And of course my partners in crime and misdemeanors, Lia Habel, Leanna Renee Heiber, PJ Schnyder and Jae Lynne Davies.

Question about YOU and AAD:
You are the man.  Er, I mean the lady.  Er…I mean you are the one who is responsible for organizing the Authors After Dark Conference in 2011 and 2012.  How did you get involved with AAD?

A couple years back I got tired with paying through the ass for RT and I realized that RT was not the kinda con I wanted to spend my money on. As a Small press author, I needed to meet the readers, and I wasn’t meeting anyone but other authors at RT. So I got together with two other authors and we came up with an event that was for the readers, by the authors, to do right by the reader.

Do you foresee yourself taking being the main organizer for a few years to come?

Well yes. For as long as AAD happens, I will be the one setting it up.

Questions about your WRITING and READING HABITS:
What did you do when you found out you were being published for the first time?

Called Audra. We couldn’t believe it.

Of all of the books you’ve written, which is your favorite?

It’s not out yet, Leather and Moonshine. Love this book, and the characters, which have been with us a long time.

Have you ever written a scene that made you blush?

Hell yes. We wrote one that I feel like I needed a smoke after we finished writing LOL.

Who was your favorite hero or heroine to write?

Hero, well most of our guys are anti hero’s so far, but I love writing Harlequin from our Satyr series and Rhys and Dante from our Rock and Roll books.

Who is your favorite hero or heroine to read?

Hmmm… well I am a fan of anything Kresley Cole does, and the Lords of the Underworld series that Gena Showalter does. So…

Have you ever been surprised by a reader’s reaction to a scene that you wrote – either good or bad?

Honestly? We rarely hear from anyone that reads out books so I couldn’t tell you. It would be lovely to hear from readers more often.

Have you always been a reader or are you like me and got turned off by the mind-numbingly boring deep and multi-layered books you had to read in High School only to ‘find’ reading again as an adult?

Always been a reader. It was my escape from a craptastic home life.  Granted I stopped reading early in HS as voraciously as did before and after, but the written word has always been a part of my life.

What book do you most remember having read in High School?

Nothing that was assigned that’s for damn sure. The book was Galilee by Clive Barker. To this day I still love that book!

Questions about YOU:
What is your favorite movie?

Top 5: Labyrinth, Legend, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Fall, and Mirrormask

What is your favorite flavor of ice cream?

I’m a huge fan of peach and blackberry cabernet sorbet.

Are you a morning person or a night owl?

Night owl.

Tell us something people might be surprised to learn about you?

I have an insane obsession with Octopi.

Question about your UPCOMING RELEASE(S):
Can you give us a hint about a project that you are working on?

Audra and I are almost finished with our rock and roll paranormal novel. It’s a spin off from You Burn Me. It is Rhys’ book and it’s the closest thing to how real bands are on the road that will be out there in Romance.

Thank you so much S.A. for taking the time to answer my questions.  I can’t wait for AAD2012 and I know many people feel the same way I do.  We know it will be a blast – no pressure.  😉

  1. Great interview, and I really hope I can come to America and AAD one day/year. Thank you Stella.

  2. oooh, another great interview. I so wish that I could go to AAD! I haven’t read any of S.A. Price’s books…off to go check them out! smiles…

  3. I’d love to go to AAD as well! So many fun authors! I’m kinda sad that Stella and Audra don’t hear from many readers, though. I have to admit that I’m too intimidated to email writers, because I’m always afraid I’m wasting their time. Hopefully after this interview more of your readers will contact you!

  4. Fantastic interview Julie! I love Stella’s author photo! So fun and creative. 😀 It does stink that you have to ask the authors some of the same questions when you already know the answers…but I’m guessing that’s a rule and those must be followed! 😛

  5. Ahoy Everyone!

Wow thank you for commenting! Aurian, We have a lot of people coming from Australia and the UK and turkey this year too I believe, which is nuts, you would be a welcome addition.

Christi: Thanks for even looking! if you have any questions, Please ask!

RLB: It is really sad we dont hear from people, but I can see where you are coming from. Most authors relish hearing from readers because it lets us know we are doing a good job and that people WANT us to continue. Reader mail means more than any award given in the industry because its the people you want to hear from you know?

Deanna: Yeah, I agree… But it keeps its very uniform I think and gets the info the readers wanna know out of the way.

  6. Hello and cool interview. I will be going to AAD for the first time this year and I am totally excited about it. I can not wait to meet all my favorite authors and get to know new ones.

  7. Dawn Salisbury says:

    Hey Stella! **waving**

I have a couple of questions:

First, how did your love for octopus-octopi come about? Second, since AAD2012 will be in New Orleans, have you been there before and if so, what is your favorite place there?

I so cannot wait! I’m a con virgin and I can’t wait to get my cherry popped! Plus I just bought (I believe) four of y’all’s ebooks a couple of weeks ago and have not yet started them but I promise you, I’ll let you know what I think!

    Dawn

  8. Great interview. I can’t wait to go to AAD this year. It will be my first con. Thanks for the chance to win some of your books. You are on my list! Trying to read something from everyone before the convention.

  9. Hi Wren!

I know you will have a blast at AAD, we really try to make it over the top fun for everyone from the parties down to the OMG insane book and promo freebies…

  10. Hi Dawn!

Hmm… well I have always liked octopi. Some people collect cats or pigs. I collect Octopi. I have tons around my house…

I havent been to NOLA before, so this coming trip on the 22nd will be my first time. i AM looking forward to seeing Octavia Books though!

  11. Sariah,

OMG thank you so much! I hope you will like whatever it is you choose to read!

  12. This was a great interview, for sure. What I really want to know is who thought up Stella’s picture idea. The outfit and picture are fantastic.

  13. Aliyah: No thinking up. that’s actually how I dress when I go out. I’m a steampunk, LOL.

  14. Northwoman says:

The reason I subscribe to this blog is so I get to learn about books and authors that are new to me. So I look forward to trying some of these books.

  15. Thank you Northwoman! I hope you do and I’m interested to see what you have to say!

  16. The rock and roll paranormal story sounds fabulous! I’m looking forward to AAD & I have to amp up my reading speed if I want to get to some of the books I plan to read for the event!

  17. thanks hun! We will have to see how the R&R para does. I love it, I love the characters and its 100% true to life (well at least the touring parts) so I’m not sure how well it will be received. its going to take a Really open minded woman to accept how things are in this book…

  18. Thanks Julie for another great spotlight! Stella-I can’t wait to meet at AAD!!! I am so excited, it is my first con and I am trying to read as much as I can from the authors attending, including checking out your books.
    See you in August!!!!

  19. Great Interview Stella. Where the heck does one get peach and blackberry cabernet sorbet? I have never heard of it before, but it sounds fabulous. R&R paranormal sounds interesting.

I just signed up for AAD and am excited and a bit terrified of going (although I can’t wait until August!!)

  20. Sherri: Ciao Bella makes the blackberry cabernet sorbet and Haggen Das does the Peach. Scoop the two together in the blender, blend librally and then put pack in the fridge. Peach Blackberry cabernet sorbet. And its WONDERFUl in a glass with some wine (I usually use a Riesling or if Im in the mood for red a Sweet red) and its a refreshing treat LOL

And dont worry about AAD, you will be there about 10 minutes before you realize you are with YOUR people and everyone there gets you and your love of the written word!

  21. Oh, I’ve heard so many great things about AAD. I’d love to go but can’t talk my hubby into it yet…thanks for putting together such an awesome event!

I’ve got to try that sorbet! Thanks for the interview and giveaway.

  22. I wish I could attend AAD but unfortunately I can’t justify the 20 hour flight for one night LOL.

I enjoyed reading the interview and will be sure to be on the look out for your newest release

    Shelleyrae @ Book’d Out
