AAD Author Spotlight: Interview with Melissa Schroeder plus giveaway

For my seventh Authors After Dark Spotlight, I give you Melissa Schroeder!

Questions about AAD:
Have you attended Authors After Dark before or are you an AAD virgin like me?

This will be my second year. I am super excited about going again.

What are you most looking forward to at AAD2012?

Seeing people I met last year and getting to meet a lot of the virgins like you 🙂 I have never been to NOLA, so I really am looking forward to that. I am hosting another open bar with my bud Kris Cook and I am having my Cursed N Blood Affair. Also, I am having my first official Harmless Addicts gathering on Wednesday night. Very exciting.

Which author(s) attending AAD2012 are you most looking forward to meeting?

Joey Hill. I am a big fan girl, but I might be too in awe to talk to her.

Questions about your WRITING and READING HABITS:
What did you do when you found out you were being published for the first time?

I was stunned. Just hours before, I had an email from an editor at a now defunct publisher, who told me that I needed to learn how to write. Then, WCP emailed me and offered me a contract on The Hired Hand. Then, I had to call my husband. I think he was in Alabama, we were stationed in Hawaii at the time.

Of all of the books you’ve written, which is your favorite?

Oh, that is a hard one. I have to say the A Little Harmless Obsession and The Spy Who Loved Her are high on the list, but so is A Little Harmless Lie, and I am in the middle of writing A Little Harmless Fascination and I am really liking the characters.

Have you ever written a scene that made you blush?

Lots and lots and lots.

Who was your favorite hero or heroine to write?

This changes on a daily basis. It is hard to decide, but some days I am in LURV with Evan from A Little Harmless Obsession. Micah is always on the top there, but there is a story that is now a free short on my site Tempting Prudence. Jonas in that story is so much like my husband, it is scary, lol.

Heroine, I love Anna from A Little Harmless Sex. Oh and Mila from Hunting Mila. She cracks me up.

Who is your favorite hero or heroine to read?

This is hard. I think Tucker Longstreet and Caroline Waverly in Carnal Innocence by Nora Roberts is one of my favorite couples of all time.

Have you ever been surprised by a reader’s reaction to a scene that you wrote – either good or bad?

Always. Especially good ones because I am very humbled by the nice things say about my books.

Have you always been a reader or are you like me and got turned off by the mind-numbingly boring deep and multi-layered books you had to read in High School only to ‘find’ reading again as an adult?

I have a degree a degree in English and history, so I kind of loved that stuff at one time. I thought I would be the next big literary star. But, then I picked up a Linda Howard book and the rest is history.

What book do you most remember having read in High School?

I know I was obsessed with Little Women at the time, lol.

Questions about YOU:
What is your favorite movie?

Hmm, all time favorite is Father Goose. But I do have an appreciation of Hangover.

What is your favorite flavor of ice cream?

Chocolate chip cookie dough

Are you a morning person or a night owl?

NIGHT OWL, but I am forced to get up early to work.

Tell us something people might be surprised to learn about you?

Charlie McMurtry, Larry’s little brother, taught me how to waltz when we were in college.

Question about your UPCOMING RELEASE(S):
The first book in your new The Cursed Clan series, Callum was released recently.  Can you tell us about the new series and its first installment?

The series is five books long and tells the story of five cousins who have been trying to break a curse that has plagued their family for centuries. Callum is the oldest and sees it as his responsibility to solve their problems. He is methodical and never acts on impulse until he meets Dr. Phoebe Chilton. Phoebe is still trying to recover from a bad marriage and break free of her parents’ hold on her. To do that, she takes some time to look over an old text the Lennons have discovered. But, as the Lennon family secrets start to come to light, she realizes she is in love with Callum–and someone will do anything to keep that from happening.

Your Harmless series has quite the following.  I’m sure your fans will be ecstatic to know that you plan on releasing FIVE titles in that series in 2012!  How do you find the time to write so much?

I write in spurts. It isn’t easy. Totally honesty, sometimes I am very whiny about it. I would much rather spend time with the family than write so much.  I set writing goals every day and I try my best to stick to them.  I also hired Brandy Walker who keeps me in line.

Do you already know whose story each book will tell?

Yes.

ALH Fascination – Conner Dillon (first in ALH LIE) and Jilian Sawyer

Possession: A Little Harmless Military Romance-Deacon Berg and Samantha Jennings

A Little Harmless Fantasy-Zeke O’brien, Maura Dillon, and Cam Richards

A Little Harmless Ride-Eli St John and Kailani Adams

Surrender: A Little Harmless Military Romance-Malachi Dupree and Amanda Forrester
