AAD Author Spotlight: Interview with Stacey Kennedy plus giveaway

My fifteenth AAD Spotlight is the one and only Stacey Kennedy!!!

Questions about AAD:
Have you attended Authors After Dark before or are you an AAD virgin like me?

I’m a total AAD virgin. In fact, I’m a conference virgin! This will be my first conference ever, so you can understand my excitement! More than that, I’m looking forward to meeting everyone (like you Julie) that I’ve gotten to know over cyberspace. It’ll be really nice to put a face to the Twitter avi!

What are you most looking forward to at AAD2012?

Everything! The party, meeting readers, other authors, the tours, the drinking (yes, there will be lots of this), and the author pub crawl. Yes, I’m looking forward to it all!

Which author(s) attending AAD2012 are you most looking forward to meeting?

Jeaniene Frost, of course. I’m a HUGE fan and I just have to meet the woman who created Bones. And maybe stalk her until she tells me all the secrets about Vlad.

Questions about your WRITING and READING HABITS:
What did you do when you found out you were being published for the first time?

Stared at the computer screen for a good five minutes and read the acceptance letter, over and over again until I believed what I was reading was true. Then, I screamed, did a little dance, and fainted.

Of all of the books you’ve written, which is your favorite?

*gasps* I could never answer this without worrying one of my characters would hunt me down. Every book I’ve written is my favorite. Every heroine is so different that I can’t compare them. It’s like picking a favorite child, just a big no-no.

Have you ever written a scene that made you blush?

Are you joking? LOL! OF COURSE! My urban fantasy romances never make me blush, but my erotic romances sure do! I don’t ever plan to write the stories as hot as they come out. And usually it’s not until I reread the story do I realize what I’ve written, and then think, “Oh. God. My. Mother. Would. Die.”

Who was your favorite hero or heroine to write?

Again, that’s a difficult answer, but I suppose I can say that my urban fantasy characters are usually my favorite to write. I really LOVE women with snark, kick-ass attitudes, and who have a big heart. Those characters tend to be ones who come out in my urban fantasies, and I always have a blast writing them.

Who is your favorite hero or heroine to read?

Vlad from the Night Huntress series. I adore that vampire like no tomorrow! Seriously, I wish he was in my bed—oops, I mean—in my head, and that I was the one who created him. I have a HUGE crush on him!

Have you ever been surprised by a reader’s reaction to a scene that you wrote – either good or bad?

I’m always surprised, especially when I read a review that’s full of gush. It’s one thing that I love the story and the characters, but when I read someone else having that same response, it’s really quite incredible.

Have you always been a reader or are you like me and got turned off by the mind-numbingly boring deep and multi-layered books you had to read in High School only to ‘find’ reading again as an adult?

LOL! Yes, I’m like you. I read very little in the teen years or even in College. I didn’t start really getting into reading until I had my first child and became a stay at home mom. With all those nap times, it gave me something to do that was fun…and exciting with all those steamy scenes!

What book do you most remember having read in High School?

None. LOL! Isn’t that sad, but true? I was too busy being a social butterfly to read.

Questions about YOU:
What is your favorite movie?

Secrets of the Ya-Ya-Sisterhood

What is your favorite flavor of ice cream?

Mint chocolate chip

Are you a morning person or a night owl?

Night owl

Tell us something people might be surprised to learn about you?

I was one bad girl when it came to high school. I hardly went and was always bored out of my mind. I have a really great short term memory—long term, not so much—but I could read notes for a class the night before and then get an A on the test. That’s honestly the only reason I think I graduated high school. Because the truth is you really have to go to high school to finish, and I couldn’t be bothered! But somehow I managed to get that diploma. 🙂

Question about your UPCOMING RELEASE(S):
The second book in your Frostbite series, Demonically Tempted is releasing this Friday!  Tell us about the series and what readers can expect in its latest installment.

Expect Tess to get some big answers! This book was just a blast to write. It takes a deeper look into her abilities, and sets out the foundation for book three, which I’ve always said will be my favorite of the series to write. It shifts more into fantasy and there were quite a few places that I needed a tissue to get through it.

I know some of you are going to hate me for it, but this book has a huge cliff-hanger. It was unavoidable. But in Demonically Tempted I’m giving a teaser at the end that will introduce the title for book three and when it will release. The goal is to not keep y’all waiting too long for the next one.

You are also polishing up your book Beg For It, the second book in your Pact of Seduction series that is due out in May.  This tale tells us about Kole and Bella’s book.

Kole is a Dom, and Bella is a woman who never thought of entering into the BDSM lifestyle. But life throws some twist and turns her way and she just might find herself in the care of Kole.

This book was fun to write because it’s just that…a BDSM erotic fling! There’s no bad guy to kill, but the sex in this book is HOT! And Kole was a dream to write. Good heavens the man is sexy…and yes I drooled on my keyboard, more than once.

You are a writing machine with three books in the works!  One that you are very excited about is Werewolves be Damned.  Originally it was to be released Summer 2012 but it’s been pushed back to Summer 2013.  Can you explain to us why?

You know usually hearing that your release date is pushed back is a bad thing, but not in this case. My editor read the first book in the Magic & Mayhem series, and loved it so much she suggested we go mass-market paperback with it! Exciting, right?

I think what’s even more thrilling, is having an editor on the series with me that loves Nexi & Kyden as much as I do! I honestly couldn’t have anticipated how the books would shape up. Once short novels have turned into full-lengths that are full of snark, humor, action and the sexy stuff!! I can’t wait for the release of WEREWOLVES BE DAMNED in 2013! Seriously, they are just way too much fun!

Thank you very much Stacey for answering my questions.  I am really looking forward to meeting you in NOLA – my fellow Canadian.  *g*

Me too, Julie! Let’s make sure we have a drink together…or two! 🙂
