Question – Who Are Some Of Your ‘Someday Authors’?

How many times have you heard “So many books…so little time”?  My guess would be many.  There’s a slightly different twist to that phrase:  “So many authors…so little time”.  How many of you are nodding thinking this is a very true statement?  My guess would be many.

Often I’m chatting with someone about books (I know, shocking) and they will mention “this book reminds me of the books written by so and so”.  Sometimes my answer will be “I’ve heard great things about so and so but I haven’t read her yet…but I really want to one day.”  This is usually followed by the person I was talking to wondering what is wrong with me because so and so’s books are “made of awesome”…apparently.  I do believe we all have authors like that – authors we have heard wonderful things about and really want to check out one day when our reading time isn’t as hectic.  I have dubbed these authors my ‘someday authors’.

Right now, I am reading The Taken by Vicki Pettersson.  Vicki has been on my ‘someday author’ list since I discovered urban fantasy.  The Taken is the first book in a new trilogy she is writing and when I heard she was starting a new story I jumped at the chance to read her.  I tend to do that…  If I notice that one of the authors who resides on my ‘someday author’ list is releasing a new series, I will try to pick it up.  It seems less daunting than starting at book one of a series they are about to release book 6 to.  Keri Arthur, Nalini Singh and Joey W Hill are all examples of this where I’m concerned.  Then sometimes I just pick up a book one of a long-ish running series…just because it seems to right thing to do.  Examples of this for me include the Maker’s Song series by Adrian Phoenix (which I have finally managed to read book one this year…and loved) and the Sabina Kane series by Jaye Wells (which I recently read the first book…and loved.)

So now I pitch it to you.  Who are some of your ‘someday’ authors?

  1. *ugh* My list of someday authors is HUGE!!! Vicki Petterson is most definitely on it. I have the first book of her last series. I ate at a luncheon with her and she was incredible (and got a sneak peek of the first chapter from The Taken–that was November). I can’t wait to read The Taken!

Other someday authors (and most of them I have their books already in my TBR):
*Carolyn Crane (yes, I own the entire series…need to read it!)
*Illona Andrews (again, own entire series)
*Joey W. Hill (have witches series)
    *Laura Wright (have Eternal series)
    *Amanda Bonilla (have Shaedes book)
    *GA Aiken (have dragon series)
    *Jill Myles (have succubus series)

And that’s just a TINY sampling of authors in my TBR that I want to read, but just don’t have the time. *sob*

  2. Michele says:

I can’t think of any off the top of my head. But you should definitely read Vicki Petterson’s Zodiac series. I don’t know how good her new series is, but her Zodiac series is one of my all-time favorites– SO, SO FABULOUS!

  3. *opens Goodreads*

Wow I have a huge list but these authors below are the on top of the list. (in no order)
Illona Andrews, Thea Harrison, Darynda Jones, Kimbery Killion,Jennifer Haymore, Margaret Mallory, Inez Kelley, Robyn Carr, Kresley Cole, Sherrilyn Sparks and Gena Showalter.

With so many blogs to visit there are so many recommendations to take in. 🙂

  4. I have several on my list but the biggest one would be Karen Marie Moning. I own the first Fever book but that’s as far as I’ve gotten.

  5. *coughs* I fear they are just too many to write here

  6. not so much authors but series…Otherworld and The Immortal Instruments and Fever series are all on my someday list.

  7. There are so many and I wouldn’t want to name them anyways!!!

  8. Christi – OMG Your list! Awesome names there!

Michele – I will get around to it eventually because I have heard really great things about her other series. 🙂

Michelle – Start with Darynda Jones. You will LOVE. Then try Gena Showalter. I adore her contemporary title ‘Catch a Mate’ – it’s one of my faves. Then try her Lords of the Underworld books. You’ll like those too guaranteed. Then read all the other authors on your list. 😉 Thea Harrison is awesome too.

Paranormal Haven – KMM! I can’t wait to see what you think when you finally get around to her Fever books!

blodeuedd – LOL I can only imagine.

kimba88 – Great books on your list!

Diane – I suppose it could get depressing if you actually list them all. LOL

  9. I agree with this line of thinking… Especially as I meet so many great authors – I want to read them right away, but just don’t have time. Some authors that I’ve meet or interviewed and want to read are:

Verna DePaul (just met here – WANT her paranormal books!)
    Jess Haines
    Erin Kellison
    Melissa Schroeder
    Nicole Peeler
    Samantha Kane
    Patricia Briggs

  10. I need to get reading Jess Haines, and I’d like to check out Ann Aguire. I’ve also started series by Carolyn Crane, Stacia Kane and Erin Kellison and I need to finish them. 🙂

  11. I have so many on that list that it’ll take me a long time to write them all and the funny thing is that that list grows almost everyday… “So many authors…so little time”. 😉

  12. Northwoman says:

I have so many authors on my to-read list like that. I tend to pick a series (or author)and read everything in it. I can’t pick a new author until I finish ones I am working on. I’m currently reading everything by Larissa Ione, Jeanne Stein, Molly Harper, Nicole Peeler, Allyson James, Tara Janzen, Suzanne Brockmann, Thea Harrison, Kevin Hearne, and Eric McCarthy as an example.

On my want to read list are Lynsay Sands, Kresley Cole, Cristine Feehan, Darynda Jones, Kelly Meding, Cindy Gerard, Chloe Niell…and the list goes on and on ..

This doesn’t even mention those that I have read everything they have written and drop everything to read their next book: Ilona Andrews, Devon Monk, Jeaniene Frost, Patricia Briggs, Charlaine Harris, Keri Arthur, Carrie Vaughn, Jennifer Estep, Sherrilyn Kenyon, and more.

So you asked for one list – I gave you 3!

  13. twimom227 – Jen! I’m surprised you haven’t tried Briggs yet!

CdnMrs – Yes, you need to finish those series. Go on and do that. I’ll wait here. 😉

Bookaholic Cat – The list DOES grow larger every day! Gah! 😉

Northwoman – I want to try Christine Feehan too!

  14. Jessica says:

Great question, my To Read list on Goodreads is 65 books long, and I generally just put the first books of series on it.

Here are few “Someday” authors I’ve never read, but they have series I’m interested in:

    1. Kim Harrison (Hallows)
    2. Stacey Jay (Annabelle Lee)
    3. Mira Gant (Feed)
    4. Jill Myles (Shades Assassin)
    5. Sherrilyn Kenyon (Dark-Hunter)

    : )
