Question – What Are Some Of Your Favorite Reads Of 2012 So Far?

Today is August 20th 2012.  According to my Goodreads Challenge, I have read 79 books so far this year.  Some were meh, most were great.  But of course, some really stood out.  Here are some of my favorite reads of 2012 so far:

These are the books I have given 5plus stars to this year.  If you are interested, you can click on the book cover and it will bring you to my review.  (I will be posting my review of On the Island tomorrow)

There are many other books that have pretty much blown me away this year like Keeping Secret by Sierra Dean, Gunmetal Magic by Ilona Andrews, Changeling by Kelly Meding, Tricked by Kevin Hearne, Blood Before Sunrise by Amanda Bonilla, Red by Kate SeRine, About That Night by Julie James and Once Burned by Jeaniene Frost but I thought to keep this post on the short side, I would only mention four books.  😉

So what about you guys:  What are some of your favorite reads of 2012 so far?

  7. Hi Julie:

  15. You see this is a hard question because on my blog, I don’t really read the “new” releases as much. I could have read a book for the very first time but it has been out since 1990.
(hence the name Another Look Book Reviews)

I did love the Courtney Milan Turner’s series a lot.
I did love the 50 Shades trilogy. (yes I admit to loving it)
I finally read the Nalini Singh’s Archangel series.
I loved Kallyspo Masters super sexy Rescue Me series.
Completely loved Lisa Kleypas’ Wallflower series.

Michelle – It don’t matter when they came out, it’s all about what you read this year. I love how you read mostly ‘older’ books. You give them a new spotlight! 🙂

  17. Northwoman says:

About That NIght – Julie James
Shaedes of Gray – Amanda Bonilla

I’m certain that Once Burned – Jeaniene Frost and Gunmetal Magic – Ilona Andrews will end up here. I have them and am reading them. Everything by these 2 authors has ended up in my 5 star category.

  18. I loved Angelfall by susan Ee also and the Mind games series by Carolyn Crane was amazing but my favorite book so farthis year has been For darkness shows the stars by Diana Peterfreund!

  19. wow it’s a good question lol, I have many as well. so lets start: Blood before Sunrise by Amanda Bonilla, Gunmetal Magic by Ilona Andrews, Full Blooded by Amanda Carlson, Third Grave Dead Ahead by Darynda Jones, Summoning the Night by Jenn Bennett, One Salt Sea by Seanan McGuire,The Shifting Price of Prey by Suzanne McLeod. Well, I know it’s a lot.

  20. Julie,

I predict you will Love Alpha and Omega (briggs). Some like the Mercy Thompson ones better, but I’m rather fond of Alpha and Omega. There’s a “prequel” novella out in ebook–definitely worth reading. I don’t generally bother with prequels but it was good. It also appears in print in an anthology, but I’d have to check the name of the antho, because I don’t remember. It’s probably in my GR list though.

  21. Most of these were not released in 2012 but I read them this year.

About Last Night by Ruthie Knox
    Blue Eyed-Devil by Lisa Kleypas
    Chasing Magic by Stacia Kane
    Sacrificial Magic by Stacia Kane
City of Ghosts by Stacia Kane
    Firelight by Kristen Callihan
    Moonglow by Kristen Callihan
Deep Dark Secret by Sierra Dean

  22. Northwoman says:

I love the Alpha and Omega series by Patricia Briggs also. And the anthology for the prequel is On the Prowl.

  23. I have you to thank for the Poison Study read, Julie. So thank you!! 😀 I picked it up shortly after your Question of the Week about what books you’d take if the end of the world happened. Poison Study was one of yours.

I can provide another vote for Bared to You – I loved that book. On the downside, it’s basically 50 Shades 2.0 – the similarities are too obvious for it be accidental. However it has better characters, and a sweeter romance. I found it to be touching, heart rending and completely addicting.

  24. Northwoman – 140 books! Holy wow! There are a couple on your list that I am not aware of… *runs to Goodreads*

Kimberly – Mind Games is a great book! And I think I have to see what For Darkness Shows the Stars is about. The title is lovely!

melliane – Yes, yes, yes, yes and yes and the last two I didn’t read. lol

Maria – I have heard that reading the prequel is sort of important so I bought the anthology…for that one story. lol

Jennifer – Great list! I really enjoyed About Last Night too…and I will post my review for it eventually. lol

Northwoman – Yes! On the Prowl! I knew I had it but wasn’t sure of the title. Thanks!

Jessica – Yes Poison Study was on that list! And Bared to You better characters and sweeter romance…sounds good!

  25. I’m so glad you asked this question and so many people responded. I usually find new and interesting books/authors from this type of lists. In fact, that is how I discovered most of the favorites on my list for this year, with some long running series peppered in for good measure.

I’m geeked out over Sohpie Littlefield this year. I love the stories in the Aftertime series and the lead character of Cass. I couldn’t get enough so when I finished, I dived right into the Stella Hardesty stories starting with Bad Day for Sorry. I love Littlefield’s complicated female leads and her writing style.

I also devoured the Kevin Hearne Iron Druid series, based on Julie’s high recommendation.

Patricia Bigg’s Fairgame was excellent. The Alpha and Omega series is my favorite of hers, and this one was worth the wait.

I’m enjoying Maya Bank’s KGI series, and looking forward to the new Highland novels this fall.

I happened across Jennifer Ashley this year and have had fun reading her Shifter series.

I haven’t gotten to my copy of Larissa Ione’s Lethal Rider, or Kelley Armstrong’s 13 but I’m looking forward to them.

  26. Looks even better! I did the same thing, met my obligation and then went back and added some words! It's just not a layout to me if it do3en&#s9;t tell the story.
