Question – If You Had ‘Book Stairs’, What Titles Would You Include?

Take a look at this photo:

I have seen this photo around here and there a few times over the past couple of months.  Each time I see it, I think pretty much the same things you guys are thinking right now.  I think:   “That is pretty frikking cool!” and “That would look really awesome in my house.” and “If I did this to my basement stairs while my husband was at work, I wonder if he would notice?..”  This week though, when Jill Shalvis posted it on twitter, I thought something new:  I wondered which books would I paint on my stairs?..

Then I started thinking.  You would have to choose books that really mean something to you since you would be looking at their ‘spines’ every time you would walk up the stairs.  So what would I pick?  I think I would pick the following:

  • I would include a Harry Potter title because…well, really do I need a reason.  I think I would paint The Goblet of Fire on my stairs.
  • I would paint Love You Forever on my stairs because I still cry every time I read that children’s book.
  • I would have to include a book from the Mortal Instruments series because it showed me that there was so much more out there than Twilight.  I think I would paint City of Glass on my stairs because it is also the first book that made me totally freak out.
  • I would have to paint Poison Study because it is the first ‘adult’ book I read after my YA romp.
  • I would have to include a Black Dagger Brotherhood title on there because that is the first Paranormal Romance series that I ever read.  I have two favorites in that series and of the two, would probably paint Lover Awakened on my stairs.
  • I would have to include a Kate Daniels title because that is my most favorite series ever and my first dive into Urban Fantasy – which has become my favorite genre to read!  I think I would paint Magic Strikes on my stairs because it’s awesome.
  • I would have to paint Dreamfever on my stairs because that is the ultimate piss-off/totally amazing cliffhanger in the history of literature.  Ever.  (For me anyways… ;))

I could go on and on and on because there are just so many more books that I could easily include and each would have a reason to be on my stairs, but I will stop here with the few that played an important role in having reading become my ultimate hobby.  And, I think I would need to live in an apartment complex to be able to include all the books that I would love to paint on my stairs.

How about you guys…If you had ‘book stairs’, what titles would you include?

  1. I am trying to think if I would go with books I read the most (over and over again) or book spine poetry (hmmm)

If it is books I re-read then here we go:
    Harry Potter (1-7)
    The Outlander
    The Stand
    Feast of All Saints
    The Host
    Wishes
    Pride & Prejudice
    Patient Zero
    Dead of Night
Miss Piggy’s Guide to Life (first book I owned more than one copy of)
Light in the Attic by Shel Silverstein (intro go creepy fun)
Independence (Wagon’s West) by Dana Fuller Ross (my introduction to series reading)

(The last three were from my childhood and all 3 instrumental to my reading addiction)

  2. OMG…I wouldn’t know where to begin. Seriously Sooo many books I would want! But I do know I LOVE the idea & am now wishing I had stairs in my house because I would be stopping for paint on my way home today after seeing this. What a fun, creative, wonderful idea!

  3. Hm…

    Well Magician by R.E.Feist
    Bridget Jones’ Diary
A Farsee book by Robin Hobb
    A Robert Jordan book
    Dune

    and well more 😉

  4. Angelique, Archangel’s Consort, The Good Earth, Tarzan and tons more…

  5. Felicia – Great list. I love how you included books from your childhood!

Michele – Time to build stairs in random places in your house! 😉

blodeuedd – “and well more” LOL

    Diane – Great mix!

  6. I think I would love to have all the tales I read when I was little.
