Question – Is There Something That, When You See It, Makes You Think Of A Book?

Marcela came up with the idea for this week’s Question and it’s a good one.
(Yes, Marcela is brilliant. ;))

I own a couple of Hello Kitty t-shirts.  I wear them when I work because the daycare kids love the bold designs.  I have to tell you that ever since I read A Brush of Darkness by Allison Pang, every time I take my Hello Kitty shirt out of my closet, I think of Abby Sinclair, the main protagonist in that series.  Abby loves Hello Kitty!

There is something else that makes me think of that series.  Bacon.  The horny little unicorn that is Abby’s sidekick of sorts loves bacon so when I eat bacon, I think of Phin.

How about you?  Is there a kind of car that, when you see it driving down the street, makes you think of a character in a book?  Is there a certain type of food that makes you think of a character?  Is there something that, when you see it, makes you think of a book or a character?

  1. Oh whow – for some reason I had a harder time with this question. I’m drawing a complete blank on items that remind me of books right now. And I know I have a lot – Heck I’ve even tried things specifically because they reminded me of fictional characters.

I do remember that I ordered a Vodka Gimlet at a bar after reading the Succubus series by Richelle Mead. ;) That didn’t end well. I have no idea how anyone could subject themselves to THAT much sour. And I LIKE sour drinks.

Whenever I put on runners with jeans, I always think of Merit from Chloe Neill’s Chicagoland books. And naturally, pizza reminds me of her too.

  2. I had to think about this one for a bit.

Click it lights remind me of Mac & the Fever series.
    Kilts remind me of Outlander.
Big underwear remind me of a scene in Margaret Ethridge’s Commitment
Black leather pants totally the BDB series

That’s all I can remember right now.

  3. This happens to me all the time!

Any time i see a sunburst on anything, all I think of is Mab Monroe from Jennifer Esteps Elemental Assasin series (highly recommended to all)

Sometimes even certain places remind me of books, just because I read them in that place, which is weird!

  4. I’d like to say something smart, sadly nothing

  5. I can’t even come up with anything…I’m so clueless!

  6. So fun! it’s a good question, and I don’t really know… I think it’s alway some little things but not some I can’t remember now lol. But I love yours!

  7. Jessica – Pizza is definitely a Merit thing! lol

Michelle – You are so right about the click-it lights. Good one!

Sophie – I am with you on the sunburst sign. :)

blodeuedd, Diane and melliane – It actually took me a little while to come up with something but once I got started, tons came to me! lol

  8. Iswari Sharma says:

Exellent question! Just a few things in particular come to mind in this case.

Hazelnut Coffee – The Riley Jensen series by Keri Arthur.

Black Crows – The Morrigan from The Iron Druid Chronicles by Kevin Hearne (EXCELLENT series by the way)!

Knives – Elena from the Guild Hunter Series by Nalini Singh.

Red Sneakers – Max from the Moonlight Series by Nancy Gideon.

  9. I can’t believe I just saw this question. *headdesk*
Every time I use my salad spinner I think of Granuille fron The Iron Druid series by Kevin Hearne, she said it was one of the best inventions ever and I have to agree with her.
Also when I use the Organix coconut milk products the smell reminds me of Grace from The Unidentified Redhead series by Alice Clayton.
