My Life’s Quirks – Cynthia Eden is Awesome!
As some of you remember, back in August 2012 I was lucky enough to attend Authors After Dark as a Featured Blogger. What I decided to do as a Feature Blogger was to interview the 30 authors I needed to feature on my blog. One of those authors was Cynthia Eden.
Due to a mix up here and a spam folder there, we played ‘interview email’ tag for a few weeks. It all eventually turned out fine but Cynthia took full responsibility for the mix ups, which of course she didn’t need to because a) she’s busy and totally allowed to be a little late b) I had issues too with lost emails and so on. Once we were all settled and posted and happy, she told me she owed me a drink when we met in person in New Orleans at the convention.
Guys, Cynthia is the sweetest person!!! When I met her, she was so cute and so SO nice! She kept insisting she owed me a drink and I told her no. Then she told me she would send me something instead. She even told me to look out for a parcel from her in the mail once I got home! We chatted a bit here and there during the con and every time I found her more and more endearing. She really is the cutest thing.
A few weeks after being back from the convention, I went to the post office and found a big heavy parcel waiting for me. And who was it from? Cynthia Freaking Eden! OMGOMG!!! In NOLA, I had told her that I loved the beignets so what does she send me? TWO boxes of the mix needed to make Café du Monde beignets! OMGOMGOMG!!!
She even sent along a cute little note that is now taped to the wall of my book closet.
This weekend, I finally got around to attempting to make the yummy beignets I fell in love with in New Orleans. It was actually really easy. Well, it was supposed to be easy… First I mixed the mix with water. Then I rolled it out and cut it into even squares.
See? Even squares.
Then I fried the yummy goodness into them.
Mmm… Look at them bubble and become full of golden yummy goodness…
The first few that came out of the oil turned out a little flat.
Okay. They were totally flat. They looked more like a Toaster Strudels then beignets. But the rest of the batch turned out pretty. And yummy!
Cover those babies in powdered sugar – a lot of it – and Oh. My. Gawd! Sooo good!!!
And who do I have to thank for this decadent treat I thought I would only ever have once in my life? That’s right. Cynthia Eden.
Let me explain this awesome photo. There IS a photo of me and Cynthia floating around there somewhere. Someone else snapped it at one of the parties at AAD but I never got a copy. So I decided to um…improvise. I used the great shot Jen took and sort of…altered it a bit. You can’t tell, right? I know! I am such a wizz with photoshop…
Cynthia Eden is Awesome! Just another one of my life’s quirks.
