Question: What Was Your Last “Well It’s About Time You Read That” Book?

We all have them.  Those books that have been out for a while that all of our friends have read and adored yet we have yet to pick up to read.  Those books that, when said friends see that we have not yet read them, make it seem like we are absolutely crazy for not having picked them up sooner.  They wonder if you should even be friends anymore, they are that shocked and appalled.

Eventually though, we get to them and more often than not, we are as impressed as our friends were with the book once we are finished with it.

The last book that I read where people were telling me “it’s about time” would be Acheron by Sherrilyn Kenyon.  What an amazing book.  People were right about it and now that I’ve read it I can see why they were shocked upon learning that I had yet to give it a try.  What will the next book be?  Not sure.  I have many series I need to read.  Kim Harrison’s The Hollows series is one.  It’s been on my list for ever and I just know that I am going to hear “what do you mean you haven’t read this book yet?” when I finally get to it.  Patricia Briggs’ Alpha & Omega series is also on my looong list of books that, according to other, are made of awesome that I really have to read.  I actually own all of those books and they call out my name when I open my book closet.  They are wondering why the hell I haven’t read them yet and are starting to tell me how insulted they are when they yell at me from my closet.  And let me tell you, their insults are starting to hurt 😉

How about you?  What was your last “Well it’s about time you read that” book?

  1. Northwoman says:

I’ve read the Omega series by Patricia Briggs and I LOVE it. Everything she writes is awesome. And all the Sherrilyn Kenyon stuff – I’ve read it all. But I, also, own the first book Dead Witch Walking, have friends who rave about it and it is on my list to read. Soon.

  2. I’ve forgotten you haven’t read The Hollows, I think I need to reevaluate our friendship.
About “Well It’s About Time You Read That” Book – the only ones that come to my mind right now are some historicals by Julie Garwood that I read couple of weeks ago… OMG they are crack on paper or in my case eInk. Loved every single one of them.

  3. I read Daughter of Smoke and Bone a couple weeks ago. Didn’t like it as much as everyone seems to have, much to my disappointment.

  4. I have a lot of those, mostly because I’ve decided to wait for the audio version. But I had Acheron on my files since the day it came out, I was waiting to catch up to it, but oh boy! I don’t think I could have loved it any more than I did even if I’d had waited until I’ve read or listened to all the books.
Dead Witch Walking was a DNF for me….But wait!! Before everyone tries to kill me, if was the narrators fault, I’m still planing to read it…One of these days 🙂

  5. Kim Harrison’s Hollows series is SO GREAT! How did I find it if you weren’t the one to recommend it? Hmmmm…
You should also look into Carrie Vaughn’s Kitty Norville series. It’s great, too. 🙂
I have Vicki Pettersson’s entire Sign of the Zodiac series sitting in my kindle waiting to be read. I’ve been told I should read Patricia Briggs, Sherrilyn Kenyon, and Amanda Carlson but have yet to pick any of those up yet.

  6. I do that with a lot of books…especially ones that are hyped to the point where I feel that it just won’t live up to my expectations. I did that with the first Faefever book…I just read it this year. Also I did it with the first Cat & Bones book. Oh and I haven’t read any of Cassie Clare’s books yet either.

  7. I actually did read all the books you mention in this post, but there are plenty of series I still want and need to start reading. There are just too many books out there, and too little reading time when you have a full time job and a family and a house to look after. But someday, I will discover those treasures 🙂

  8. I haven’t read the Mercy Thompson, Sabina Kane and Downside Ghosts series just to name a few. They are on my TBR list and on my shelves, I just haven’t gotten to them yet…

  9. Ah for me it was the Kate Daniels series by Ilona Andrews and finally reading all of the Darynda Jones’ Charley Davidson books. Oh man I was missing out. Both were stellar and I am totally hooked.
Incidentally, both were recommendations by you.

  10. readerdiane says:

I have Acheron sitting on my shelf waiting for me. It is a big ass book & I’ve been spoiled by my Kindle.
One of my goals this year is to read Darynda Jone’s series.
Kim Harrison got a little dark for me but I still have the books.
I think that the Alpha & Omega explains parts of her other series. Even love her other Fantasy books.

  11. Kim Harrison’s series is on my list, can’t seem to get around to picking it up though I am sure I will love it. Funny how that goes. And that we ALL have these series….just waiting.

  12. Northwoman – Rave is a good word for what people do with that book lol.

Bookaholic Cat – I am only kidding. I have totally read that book. *avoids eye contact* 😉

Desme – I feel the same way when I don’t enjoy a book that everyone raves about as much as my friends. You almost feel as though you are disappointing them lol

Lupdilup – I am still super excited that you loved Acheron that much 🙂

Liz – LOL! I have heard great things about the Kitty books too. Yet another series I have to try soon…

Midnyte Reader – You’ll have to try to read Cassie before the movie comes out. That leaves you 4 months (I believe) 😉

aurian – Yes. When we retire we may be able to catch up lol

Stella – When we sit down to list all the books we have not read, it’s discouraging lol. Strongly recommend the Mercy Thompson books by the way 😉

Michelle – I love it when someone tries a book because I loved it and they loved it too. The Charley books are stellar!

readerdiane – I tend to stay away from giant books too. They are just too intimidating! lol But I made an exception with Acheron and I’m glad I did 🙂

    Lexi – Yes, just waiting…

  13. Too funny. We have similar “Well It’s About Time You Read That” lists. 🙂 I just got around to reading the Kim Harrison Hallows series in January. I’d tried it a few times before and just couldn’t get into the characters. This time I bore through the first 35% of the book, and got completely and utterly hooked. I ended up loving the series so much, I’m actually re-reading it now. But like you I held out on reading it for years. I think you also used to have JD Robb’s mystery series on your list of “Need to Reads” – that’s another one I finally got around to reading end of last year. Next up – maybe Amanda Bonilla’s Shaede series or Karen Chance’ Cassie Palmer series or heck, maybe I should finally read something by Sherrilyn Kenyon.

  14. Oh! And I haven’t read the Alpha and Omega series either. Charles just didn’t seem dynamic enough to make a sexy hero or LI. But I know everyone loves that series, so I really do need to pick it up at some point.
