Silly Stuff – Gender Specific Survival Guides

Awful Library Books posted this last week and man oh man, it’s…special.  The thing that makes these extra O-o is the fact that they were published in 2012!
Check out what these authors think girls and boys might encounter and need survival advice for:

Boys –

Unlike those other books for boys that are a little too dangerous, BOYS ONLY: HOW TO SURVIVE ANYTHING is the perfect guide. In addition to the mix of humor and helpfulness, the fresh graphic style of art makes this book stand out from all the others. With practical, funny, and sometimes ridiculous how-tos (like how to escape quicksand, navigate using only the stars, and avoid being eaten by a polar bear) boys are going to love getting prepared for just about anything!

Survive Anything 4 Survive Anything 5

Along with escaping quicksand, navigating using only the stars and avoiding being eaten by a polar bear, this book will teach boys how to survive the following:

  • a shark attack
  • a plane crash
  • an earthquake
  • whitewater rapids
  • a swarm of bees

Now for the girls:

Unlike those other books for girls that are a little too daring, GIRLS ONLY: HOW TO SURVIVE ANYTHING is the perfect guide. In addition to the mix of humor and helpfulness, the fresh graphic style of art makes this book stand out from all the others. With practical, funny, and sometimes ridiculous how-tos (like how to deal with a clothes crisis, teach your cat to sit, and spot an alien in your family) girls are going to love getting prepared for just about anything!

Survive Anything 3 Survive Anything 2

Along with dealing with a clothes crisis, teaching your cat to sit and spotting an alien in your family, this book will teach girls how to survive the following:

  • a bff fight
  • tests
  • shyness
  • truth or dare

*blink blink*  *crickets chirping in the background*

What the hell is that?!?!  Personally, I would get my daughter the boy’s version.  Sounds much more interesting.  And these were published in 2012!!!

Apparently both books have a chapter on surviving a zombie attack but where the boys are encouraged to hit the zombies with a baseball bat, girls are encouraged to run away.

Crazy…

  1. Well, why would we need to deal with anything? If a boy can take care of it, we needn’t worry our pretty little heads about it!

I can’t believe that’s still what we’re teaching girls today. Arg!

  2. Gah! This kind of stuff makes me so angry. What century do these people think we live in? If this is all we are going to expect from our daughters, we may as well go back to this BS:

    Grr.

  3. Okay, that really is bad.

  4. WTF!? I’m upset just reading them. Boy are all strong and adventurous and girls problems are clothes and frenemies?
Lately I feel like we are going back, I can’t imagine how it’ll be in 10 years. Are we goig to still have the right to vote? Or are we going to be so stupid and weak our men will have to decide for us? *cries*
