Question – What Is Your Favorite Read of 2014 So Far?

Question Visual Again

It’s March.  It’s only MARCH and I already can’t decide on my most favorite book of 2014.

If I were asking this Question in May, I would be even more torn as I would have to add Banishing the Dark by Jenn Bennett.  So Good!!!  Oh, and Stone Cold by Devon Monk.  So Good!!!

But it’s not May.  It’s March.  March 10th.  Not even late March.  And I have two books that are neck and neck to receive the title of my favorite read of the year so far.

The first one is Iron Night by ML Brennan.  Such an amazing book, this urban fantasy series is really impressing me and I was super happy with this second installment.  I thought about this book long after I finished it and I re-read many scenes.  For me, those are mandatory signs for picking a favorite read of the year.

And second is another book I thought about long after reaching the end and re-read a few scenes since.  I am talking about Murder of Crows by Anne Bishop.  Also a book two in an urban fantasy series, this one was exceptional.

So honestly, I have no idea which I can say I enjoyed more.  Both are books I consider to be near-perfect reads and both are books I think everyone and their mothers should read.

So how about you?  What is your favorite read of 2014 so far?

  1. Definitely Murder of Crows, although Iron Night would be a close second.

  2. Northwoman says:

UGH. I have a longer list. If I have to pick just one though, it’s Deeper by Robin York.

But I read both Generation V and Iron Night this year and I love them. Also Clean Sweep by Ilona Andrews. And Frost Burned by Patricia Briggs. And The Scribe by Elizabeth Hunter. Live by Mary Ann Rivers.

They are all 5 star reads for me.

  3. Totally agree with Murder of Crows. Fantastic book!

  4. I have had 2 5’s this year: Reaver by Larissa Ione and The Many Sins of Lord Cameron (Highland Pleasures, #3) by Jennifer Ashley

  5. I have read many great books this year. My favorite are:
    Red Rising by Pierce Brown
    Impossible Things by Kate Johnson
    Warprize by Elizabeth Vaughan
Murder of Crows by Anne Bishop
Shattered Veil by Tracy E. Banghart
The Winner’s Curse by Marie Rutkoski

  6. Felicia — I so love Jennifer Ashley’s Highland Pleasures series! 🙂 I haven’t read them in a few years though. Perhaps it is time for a reread.

Hm . . . my only 5 star read this year is DEEPER by Robin York (I cannot stop talking about this one!). I have a few 4.5 star books I loved though, like LONG TIME GONE by SE Jakes, Secret by Brigid Kemmerer, and Sweet Ruin by Nazarea Andrews, plus one or two more. 🙂

  7. Coleen K. says:

The Undead Pool by Kim Harrison. Best in the series so far!

  8. Seeing as to how I’ve only read 2 books so far this year, I’m going to have to go with Jeaniene Frost’s Up From the Grave. Such a great ending to a series that I love. I also have to admit that it’s refreshing to see an end to a series…some of my other series feel like they are just going forever and it’s getting a bit…not sure what the word is…a bit blah! 🙁

  9. Mine is definitely Undead Pool by Kim Harrison. But I just finished Murder of Crows this weekend, and loved it too, so it takes a close second.

  10. Really hard to pick! In fact, I most definitely can’t pick just one!

I loved Undead Pool and Reaver, of course. And these next two weren’t released this year, but I just got to them – The Fault in Our Stars by John Green and Falling Together by Marisa de los Santos. Both were amazing. And lastly, I really liked Ashes to Ashes, the second to last book in Karina Halle’s Experiment in Terror series.

  11. Not new, but new to me that I loved is Aftershock by Jill Sorenson.

  12. Reapers Property and Reapers Legacy both by Joanna Wylde. Im not really into Biker books but I could not put these two novels down, and they have changed my opinion entirely.

I havent read books as good as these since the JR Ward BDB series.

If you havent read them go download a sample!!!!!

  13. grat books, I’m so behind for some and I still need to read them but I have them actually. For me, I loved the first and second Others books, they were so awesome!

  14. As you say a difficult one already! For me I discovered a series called Hidden by Colleen Vanderlinden and I just loved it, there are 3 books in the series the last of which was out last month, Home. The characters are still with me. And although I haven’t read it yet, I love that feeling of the book being sat there waiting, I just know I am going to love The Undead Pool, Kim Harrison just gets better and better. Both your picks are on my tbr pile but its a large pile!

  15. I’ve had an awesome 2014 reading year so far. I’ve gotten caught up on some of my favs that finally came out on paperback. However my fav read came to me by an author I didn’t know or hear of before. I just finished it a few days ago and I haven’t been able to start a new book yet. I am still living with this one in my head.
It was Making Faces by Amy Harmon. Oh Julie this story blew me away. You have to read it.

  16. I listened to both Written in Red and Murder of Crows this year and they are tied at the moment for favorite book of the year so far.

  17. I have read some 10 star books already, but the best of them Murder of Crows.

  18. I’ve listened to both Written in Red and Murder of Crows in 2014 and they are at the top of my list. The Undead Pool is up there too, as I think it is the best in the series so far. I’ve listened to Up From the Grave and Night Broken. While I thought they were both great books, they are high on my list, but not at the top.

  19. Rebe – Woot!

Northwoman – I know how much you enjoyed Deeper. It is on my list of books I must read thanks to you 🙂

    Michele – Absolutely.

Felicia – I really must check out Jennifer Ashley’s books. And yes, Reaver was very good. I agree.

Bookaholic Cat – All your talk of Red Rising makes me very curious about it…

The Book Queen – Deeper for you too, eh? I’ve only heard good things about that one.

Coleen – I HAVE to read that series!

Deanna – Up From the Grave is definitely worthy of your favorite read of the year so far. 😉

Jessica – I’m happy for the fans of Kim Harrison’s series that the books are still getting better and better, even after all the books she’s released 🙂

Lizzie Dee – It IS hard to pick just one. Impossible even!

Seleste – *runs to Goodreads to check that one out*

Erica – Wow! Such praise! I’m going to have to check those out! Thanks 🙂

    melliane – Yes they are!

Sarah – I have not heard of the Hidden series. I will have to see what they are about. Thanks!

Michelle – I have added Making Faces to my list. Your review was glowing! You make it hard not to want to read it 😉

    Jennifer – Boo Ya!

    aurian – Absolutely.

Melanie – You have listened to some fabulous books! I agree with your choices 🙂
