Nalini Singh and JR Ward News!

So…I’m perusing NetGalley the other day (for those of you who don’t know, NetGalley is a website where book bloggers, librarians and book reviewers can request early review copies of books) when a title stops me dead in my tracks. Rock Addiction it said. But the title is not what surprised me. It was who authored the book. Rock Addiction is written by none other than the talented Nalini Singh.

I read and quite enjoy Nalini’s Guild Hunter series. I do not read her Psy-Changeling series but not because I don’t want to but because of time. As in I have none. I actually read the first book and really enjoyed it…but never found the time to read further into the series. But I will, so stop looking at me like that. *gives stink eye*

Rock Addiction is the first book in a new New Adult Contemporary Romance series Nalini Singh will be self publishing. The series, called Schoolboy Choir, will feature three full-length novels and two novellas and will be released in both eBook and print formats. Rock Addiction is the first full-length novel and it’s due out September 9th. Yes, September 9th….of this year! And Rock Courtship, the first novella of the series, will be released in October. Of this year.

No official covers yet but here is the blurb for Rock Addiction:

A bad boy wrapped in a sexy, muscled, grown-up package might be worth a little risk…

Molly Webster has always followed the rules. After an ugly scandal tore apart her childhood and made her the focus of the media’s harsh spotlight, she vowed to live an ordinary life. No fame. No impropriety. No pain. Then she meets Zachary Fox, a tattooed bad boy rocker with a voice like whiskey and sin, and a touch that could become an addiction.

A one-night stand with the hottest rock star on the planet, that’s all it was meant to be…

Fox promises scorching heat and dangerous pleasure, coaxing Molly to extend their one-night stand into a one-month fling. After that, he’ll be gone forever, his life never again intersecting with her own. Sex and sin and sensual indulgence, all with an expiration date. No ties, no regrets. Too late, Molly realizes it isn’t only her body that’s become addicted to Fox, but her heart…

Nalini, on her blog this week, says this book is “sexy, it’s emotional, and it’s deeply romantic”. Sounds perfect.

Oh, and she teases us with this:

Rock Addiction Quote - Nalini Singh
Sounds good, eh? Well I am going to read it and am going to post a review the week of September 15th.

Speaking of this fun Nalini Singh news, I was perusing the blogs I follow the other day and noticed this news about Nalini’s newest series on one of my favorite go-to-for-book-related-information blogs, Wicked Scribes. She’s always so on the ball, that one! In her post entitled ‘That Sneaky Nalini’, she finishes her post by saying:

So, yesterday word broke about a contemporary from J.R. Ward, and today it is Nalini’s turn. And the best part? These new books have absolutely no impact on the release schedule for the Psy/Changeling and Guild Hunter series. It is really a total bonus.

Er…what?! I know I had not checked my favorite blogs in a few days because I’ve been busy but how did I miss that news?! JR Ward is working on a new contemporary romance series?!

So I scroll through missed posts and sure enough, I find this:

NAL Inks Ward to New Series
Bestselling author J.R. Ward has signed a three-book, world rights deal with New American Library to do a contemporary series. Called the Bourbon Kings, the series will, as NAL explained, “follow the intertwined fortunes of several ultrawealthy Kentucky families who have made their fortunes from bourbon.” The first Bourbon Kings book is set for late 2015. The deal was brokered by NAL’s Kara Welsh and Steven Axelrod at the Axelrod Agency. Ward, the pen name for Jessica Bird, writes paranormal romance (and romances under her given name); as J.R. Ward, her series include the Black Dagger Brotherhood and the Fallen Angels. Lucy Stille at Agency for the Performing Arts is handling film/television rights for the series.

Well then. There you go. Now even though this will not be JR Ward’s first time spinning contemporary romance (she wrote under Jessica Bird mostly pre-Black Dagger Brotherhood and they have been re-releasing those titles under JR Ward for the last few years), it should still be interesting to see if her writing has matured since her earlier contemporary works. Or not. We’ll just have to wait until late 2015 to find out on that one.

So there you have it. Some pretty exciting news from two of paranormal romance’s sweetheart authors. Will you be checking out these new books?
Happy Weekend!

  1. What!? I also didn’t know about this. I think we are living in the same world… the Lala World.
I’m happy with the news, but I can’t help and ask… WHY? Why nowadays all the authors feel the need to write NA. Why they don’t stick to their usual genres? Before authors were milking the Vampire cow (after Twilight), then the Norse mythology cow (after Thor) and now is the NA cow… I really don’t know how to feel about it.
