Question – How Did You Come Up With The Name for Your Blog?

There are so many Book Blogs out there.  And each and every one of them has a story.  Part of the story that you don’t often hear is how the blogger came up with the name for her blog.  Well, since I know you are all dying to know, I’ll tell you how I came up with Yummy Men & Kick Ass Chicks as the name for mine.

When I was three years old or so, my dad made me a swing out of a tire.  But this was no ordinary tire swing.  Oh no.  My father, the genius, placed the tire horizontally and placed a board at the bottom.  This made the swing the most awesome and comfortable swing in the world!  I LOVED my swing.  I would spend hours on it.  My love affair with my swing didn’t end when I hit puberty.  No.  When I was 19, I moved in with my grandmother after my grandfather passed away…and I brought the swing with me!  My father put it up in the tree in her yard.  Now I am in my own house.  And yes, the bestest tire swing in history hangs from the big tree in my backyard.

Yup.  You are following the story properly.  I, a 34 year old grown up, still likes to indulge on a swing ride every once in a while.  I go out when the kids are playing with Jason and I listen to my iPod.  Before I started reading, my little swing rides were really my only form of escape.  On my swing is where I relax and where I reflect.  It’s also where I come up with ideas for the daycare.  And now that I write a blog, it’s where most of my ideas for “My Life’s Quirks” are born.  And my swing is where I was when I came up with the name for my blog.

If I find a guy cute, I call him Yummy.  That’s where the idea started.  I knew I wanted catchy and different and I liked the idea of having the word ‘Yummy’ in there somewhere.  But my blog  wasn’t going to only be about yummy dudes.  So I started thinking about the women in the books that I’d been reading.  They were kick ass.  That’s it!  All of a sudden, while I was sitting on my swing, the name Yummy Men & Kick Ass Chicks came to me.  It was a little long, but I didn’t care.  And when I told people what I was thinking of calling my blog, I always got a *giggle* and a *blush*.  And that told me that it was the perfect name for my blog — because through my blog, I wanted to make my readers *blush* and *giggle* while I talked about Yummy Men and Kick Ass Chicks and of course about the books where I find them.

All this leads me to my question:  How did you bloggers come up with the name for your blog? or If you had a blog, what would you call it?

  1. I had a tire swing too, but it was under lots of trees and the bugs used to drive me insane most of the year!

    Great blog topic!

My blog is called “Moonlight to Twilight” because when I was a kid my parents would say ‘Lights out!’ and of course being a book addict I would sneak out of bed and sit in my bedroom window to try and read by the moonlight until my parents fell asleep then I would risk turning on my bedside lamp and I would read from “moonlight to twilight” the next morning. I would be dead tired and drag myself to school, but I just couldn’t help wanting to read at night.

Today I still do that, only now I am sending my kids off to bed and I get to keep the light on, but I still like to sit beside the window and read under the moonlight.

  2. I had a slide! I loved that slide, til it cracked and broke :'( It was bight orange with green handles. Le sigh.

My blog is called Swept Away Again, because everytime I read a book I’m always swept away with the storyline and so caught up in the action, drama and romance. The reason it’s called Swept Away Again, well I read more than one book a year 😉 and I’m swept away again and again by some great books and it was something my Father said to me once about getting swept away with a great book (he preferred fantasy books though) and it stuck in my head.

  3. Elizabeth – What a sneaky girl you are! lol I love the name of your blog. It’s poetic and meaningful!

Ally – I love that your blog is named after something your father said to you. That is so sweet!

  4. My name was easy because I babble and blah blah all the time. Perhaps I should rename my blog to Babblings of a Blah Blaher? 😉

  5. I love your name:)

I heard the word Smexy for the first time on the JR Ward message boards. I fell in love…lol

  6. Katie – Your blogs name is perfect just the way it is!

Mandi – Aw…is there nothing JR Ward can’t help with?! 🙂

  7. My blog, oh no one gets it 😉
It’s Book Girl of Mur-y-Castell, ok the bookgirl part is obvious, I love books *gasps in surprise*
Mur-y-Castell is the place where Blodeuedd lived, her town, castle. There you go, a hard blog name to spell and a very strange one. But then my blog was for me 🙂

  8. My blog is called: “If I find Kraft dinner on my shirt and I can’t remember the last time I ate Kraft dinner is the Kraft dinner still good to eat?”

It’s still a work in progress because people keep having a difficult time taking me seriously… I wonder why that is? Hmmmm

  9. Everyone in my house knows that if I’ve got a book in my hands and I’m being talked to or asked a question the response they get will always be, ‘Not now. I’m reading!’ I thought it was a funny name for a blog so I ran with it.

  10. blodeuedd – The name may be hard to spell, but it’s unique! Very cool 🙂

Stanley – You’re strange. And I’m allowed to say that since I’m married to you.

Jen – I think your blog’s name is suitable for most of us… It’s a perfect name for a book blog!

  11. I was reading a ton of Vicki Petterson when I thought about creating somewhere I could muse about the books I read.
I love how each of her characters are super-heroes, in one way or the other. So, I wanted to come up with a name that sounded like a character that could be found in a comic book from the 70s.

*so jealous of your gorgeous back-yard*

  12. My blog name came from some girls I work with who call me their “book pimp”. I am forever recommending and bringing in my own copies of books to loan them. The name seemed like just the right fit when I decided to start me own blog.

  13. Jessica – Spinecracker does sound like a superhero — one you’d be glad is on your side! (And I love my back yard too :))

Judi – “The Book Pimp” is a very catchy and cool name for a book blog!

  14. Some great blog names here!

I will admit that I found my way to this blog based on the name – – if I see a catchy name on a Mr. Linky, I will check out that one before any others. So a blog name is pretty darn important, I would say.

I got my blog’s name, Psychotic State, from a sweatshirt I got years ago, designed to look like a college sweatshirt (it was a gag gift). I always thought it was funny and, many days, “psychotic state” fits my personality to a “T”.

  15. Lori – Psychotic State is awesome! And it came from a sweatshirt? Just goes to show that you never know where the great ideas will come from. 🙂
