From Goodreads
“The first in a new erotic romance series, Backstage Pass is a sizzling mix of sex, love, and rock n’ roll It’s been months since Brian Sinclair, lead guitarist for the famous rock band, Sinners, composed anything. Unable to write the music that once flowed so naturally, Brian is lost without his musical mojo. But when sexy psychology professor Myrna Evans comes on tour to study groupie mentality, Brian may have found the spark he needs to reignite his musical genius. When lust turns to love, will Brian be able to convince Myrna that what they have is more than just a fling, and that now that he’s found his heart’s muse, he doesn’t want to live without her?”

I am a huge fan of Maya Banks’ Sweet series.  With its interesting story lines, its charismatic and alluring characters and its sizzling sex scenes, it has become one of my go-to series if I’m in the mood to re-read something hot and familiar and hot.  And I’m always there, at the bookstore, the day the next book in that series is released.  Well, ladies and gentlemen, I believe I’ve found its equal!

“Backstage Pass” by Olivia Cunning is the first book in what is to be a five book series about the Sinners, a fictional metal rock band.  Each member of the group is set to have his own book…and I for one can’t wait to read about each and every one of them!  After meeting them all in this first installment and getting ‘teases’ about their pasts and learning about their quirks (sexual and otherwise), I am anxious to learn more about them and to meet the lucky ladies who will tame their wild ways. But this in only the first book, so let’s start there.

“Backstage Pass” focuses on Brian “Master” Sinclair, the bands lead guitarist and song writer.  When we first meet him, he is drunk and on top of a table in a hotel lounge mourning the demise of yet another relationship.  Brian is the hopeless romantic among the group; he’s constantly giving his heart away.  He is a hot and smoldering character.  I think out of all of the band members, Brian is the one who I will fight for as ‘mine’.  😉  Funny, sweet, talented and sexy as hell.  He’s been going through a little bit of a writing slump, but once he meets Myrna and their fling starts he is totally inspired and Myrna becomes his muse.  Now, what do they do to get to that inspirational point?…  Just use your imagination, the smuttier the better, and you would be right.

Myrna Evans is at the same hotel as the Sinners attending a psychology conference.  (And before I continue, yes she has an old lady’s name.  She is teased about it in the book) She is a college professor and holds a doctorate in human sexuality.  After meeting the band and being invited to attend their next show, she becomes fascinated with the guys groupies.  She would love to pick their brains.  So she applies for a grant so she can ‘study’ them.  But, poor Myrna, that would mean touring with the band.  Spending each and every day and night with them…stuck on their tour bus.  Oh Myrna, how ever will you survive?!  Oh, I know!  By having lots and lots of sex with a really yummy and talented guitar player!

Myrna is divorced and is afraid of love.  Even the word scares her because her ex-husband used it to manipulate her.  She has trouble believing that it can truly mean something to someone.  This frustrates Brian because he is the total opposite.  The chemistry between Brian and Myrna is electrifying.  And their smut scenes…holy hell!  There were many super steamy scenes, but Olivia writes the story so well around them that it doesn’t feel as though she is going overboard…even though there are many steamy scenes…Many many many… *blushes*

Let’s talk about the other members of the band.  The relationship between the guys is great to witness.  They worked hard to get where they are, they are completely comfortable with each other and know each other better than brothers.  Their dialogue was fantastic and fun.  Truly, I can’t wait to read more about these guys.

While I was reading this book, I kept telling Jason about it.  I would say *slight spoiler* “It’s about a rock band and a human sexuality professor who is touring with them.  The guys are all totally hot and have lots of sex.  The lead guitar player is the sweetheart and he really wants the professor.  She has that ‘naughty professor’ thing going for her.  He soon becomes inspired by her and he writes a song while they make love and writes it on her body.  How hot is that?!”  As I was telling him all this, he had this “are you serious” look on his face.  Okay, I realized then that it could come across as a little hooky, but trust me when I say this story is really sweet and really fun and really…HOT!  There is even a scene when Myrna and the boys go to the grocery store…and even it’s really cute!

There is an ex-husband sub-plot that I found to be a little unnecessary, but I know why it was put in there.  Something needed to explain Myrna’s reluctance, because in reality, who would say ‘no thank you’ to Brian Sinclair!  It wasn’t enough of a bother for me to lower my rating though.  I wanted to start this book over the second I hit ‘the end’, therefore this book deserves every one of my five plus stars.  “Backstage Pass” is a wonderful debut novel by a talented new contemporary writer.  I can’t wait for “Rock Hard” (Sed’s book) which is scheduled to come out in April 2011.  (As you see, I have already placed it in my ‘eagerly anticipating’ column on your right)

5 plus stars

Oh, and P.S. — When I asked you guys What’s the hottest book you’ve read this year, many of you answered this book…and I totally see why!

Giggle worthy quotes
“’You know what they say.  Absence makes the heart grow fonder.’
‘If my heart grows any fonder, it’s going to hop out of my chest and into yours.’
She melted.  She scooted up his body to kiss him.  ‘That’s the sweetest thing anyone’s ever said to me.’
‘It sounds sort of fatal,’ he murmured.”
—–
“’That woman has got you by the balls, Brian,’ Jace said.
Brain glanced up at him and laughed.  ‘Yeah, but the way she grips them – hard enough to get my attention, but not so hard that I want to get away – feels so good.’”
