Question – What Would Be In Your Advent Calendar?

This year, my parents were kind enough to buy an Advent Calendar for each of the kids that come to my house on weekday mornings.  This means, they brought me six.  It’s the classic type with a chocolate behind the little door, one for every day from December 1st to December 24th.

I’m telling you, I wish they made Calendars like that for every day of the year.  It’s amazing how quickly kids will listen and how fast they will accomplish a task if there is promise of a little piece of chocolate waiting for them at the end of it!  They will get dressed for school in no time flat if I tell them they can have their Calendar chocolate when they are ready.  They will tidy up the toys faster than I ever thought possible if they know their Calendar chocolate is on the table for when they are done.  It’s actually really funny…and great!

This got me thinking.  Wouldn’t it be great if they made Advent Calendars for adults?  But would chocolate be enough for an adult to encourage us to get things done quicker?  Would a little piece of chocolate be satisfying enough once we finish folding the laundry or once we hand in that important report?  Yeah….probably not.  So what would be enough?  That leads me to this week’s question:

What would be in your Advent Calendar?

Books are the obvious choice.  If there was a box that held a different book behind its little door every day…well, that would be really nifty.  Or maybe a new color of eye shadow or lip gloss behind every door…that would also be quite cool.  Then I imagine extremes:  Dinner made and ready to serve behind every door or $100 behind every door.  Yeah…that would get me vacuuming in record time!  I’d even cut back on my nagging um, I mean my gentle reminding of my husband for that.  😉

  1. Those $1 or $2 lotto scratch off tickets. Of course I would be the first one to open the slot each day and take them before anyone else could. 😉

  2. Hmm…an advent calendar that held a mini vacation to a different destination behind each door would totally do it for me.

  3. I’d say 2 hours of non-stop reading time with no bathroom breaks, phone calls, or any other distractions. It’d be nice to have that every day!!!

  4. Katie – Lottery tickets are a good idea! Then you could end up with thousands of dollars! Smart cookie you are!

    Jen – A mini vacation. That’s a wonderful idea!

Deanna – I would never have thought of that! I think all us readers would benefit from your Advent Calendar! 🙂

  5. When I was a kid, my parents gave me these advent calendars that had a little piece of a story behind each window. I always wanted to rip open the next day to find out what happens next. Then one year someone got me the type of advent calendar with the chocolate and it felt so disappointing in comparison!

  6. DL – I have never heard of the types that had stories in them. What a wonderful idea!

  7. Sparkly make up, books, a new car, and lots of wine 🙂

  8. Yes, I am one smart cookies 😉
