My Life’s Quirks – Go Sens Go, the Fancy Way.

Jason is a lucky bastard.  Around Christmas time, there was a fund raiser where he works.  You donated a certain amount of money and in turn, you picked a lollipop from the lolly tree.  The color of the lolly’s stick determined what you won, if anything.  Well, Jason won a great prize:  Two tickets to an Ottawa Senators hockey game!  But not just any tickets…tickets to sit in his company’s box on the 100 level.  That is a big deal.  That’s going ‘Go Sens Go’, the fancy way.  Let me explain it to you this way…

Carrie Underwood, the American Idol winner now country singing superstar, recently married Ottawa Senators player Mike Fisher.  Well, when she goes to a hockey game, she sits in a box on the 100 level.  Yup.  It’s that big a deal.

The game was last Saturday, January 8th.  Ottawa Senators vs. Tampa Bay Lightning.  I bore my new Sens fleece hoodie and applied red, gold and black eyeshadow to my eyelids and I was ready.  And since this was my first (and most likely only time) in a box at a Sens game…I, of course, took (lots of) pictures…

This is what the box’s suite looked like when we first arrived.  I mean…wow!

Yes, that would be our own bar/fridge.  We even had or own hostess!  Soon Tim Horton’s coffee would be brewed and the sink would be filled with ice and non-alcoholic refreshments.  Also, there would be pizzas on the table along with cut veggies, hot dogs, chips and popcorn.  The perfect menu for enjoying a hockey game.  (We were really spoiled)

This was the view of the rink from the box.  I know right?!  Really GREAT seats!

Then when you turned away from the rink to head back into the suite, this is what you saw!

I had to double check my ticket to make sure I was in the right place.  I mean, it was just all too fancy…  I especially started questioning my ticket when I saw this:

Yes, that is a bathroom in the suite!!!  I would not have to run to the ladies room as soon as the buzzer sounded at the end of each period and stand in an insanely long line up like a sucker!  Nope, not Julie.  I would just have to mosey on down to the back of the suite and pee like a rock star!

Then the players came onto the ice to warm up.  Look how close we were!  The few times where I’ve been lucky enough to attend a game, I’ve sat at the 300 level.  If you look closely, at the very top edge of the photo where the seats disappear off the picture…there!

Then the game started.  So exciting.  GO Sens GO!  I am chatting it up with Jason’s boss and other boss and a few other co-workers who also won tickets.  He is a lucky man because his co-workers are all really awesome!

During intermission, the Timbits hockey players came to play on the big rink.  It was one of the cutest things I have ever seen in my life!  These are little kids who are around 4 years old.  They scored on their own net, but who cares.  They were having fun and they were so excited when they scored.  Some would even do a little dance!  (One little guy even ‘rode’ his hockey stick @-@) There was even a little 4 year old thug who was pushing the other players around!  *sigh* That one has what it takes to be a great hockey player some day…

And of course, no post about attending a NHL hockey game would be complete without including a photo of the Zambonis.  I just love that word.  Zamboni.  *g*

Of course, the Sens lost 2-1 to Tampa Bay.  The game was close though…I just wish there was more scoring.  It’s always more fun when your team scores.  Go fig.  I was a little perturbed though.  This was the first game I went to in over 6 years!  The Sens should have known that and they should have busted their balls to win the game for me!  But oh well…what can you do?

Go Sens Go, the fancy way.  Just another one of my life’s quirks.
