Question – What Series Do You Think of First When You Think PNR?

Vampires, werewolves and fairies, oh my!  If you’re a writer and you throw in a little magic, a yummy man, a spirited chick, some smouldering (and often quite inventive) sex, true love and a happy ever after and you’ve got yourself all of the ingredients for an impressive Paranormal Romance (PNR) story.

In last week’s Question, I asked you guys What’s Your Favorite Type of Romance? A HUGE majority said that PNR was among, if not their absolute favorite type.  And who’s to blame you?  Anything your mind could possibly conjure is possible.  And to top it all off, you have your guaranteed Happily Ever After!

This week, seeing that it’s Paranormal Romance Week here at Yummy Men & Kick Ass Chicks, I want to know about your PRN reading experience.

My questions this week are:  What series do you think of first when you think PNR?  What are some of your favorite PNR reads?

  1. IAD definitely,LOTU series, Nalini Singh’s Psy-Changling series is great too!

  2. ooh thought of another one even though there’s only two books so far, Ilona Andrews’ The Edge series. Ilona Andrews is by far one of my favourite authors.

  3. Dark-Hunters, Lords of the Underworld. Black Dagger Brotherhood and Cat & Bones!

  4. Anci Sköld says:

    I don´t know if I can choose, you know….

But some of my favourites are Molly Harper´s Jane Jamesonsseries, Chloe Neill´s Chicagoland Vampires, Ilona Andrew´s The Edge, Patricia Briggs´ Mercy Thompson, JR Ward´s BDB-series, Lara Adrian´s Midnight Breed, Rachel Caines Morganville vampires, and I´ve just read Nalini Singhs´Archangelsseries…

The one series that´s a little bit different from the others is Molly Harper´s Jane Jameson-series so I guess I´ll have to choose that one.

  5. Well since I’m still new to this whole PNR genre the first that comes to my mind is The Night Huntress Series by Jeaniene Frost.

  6. Kresley Cole’s “Immortals After Dark” series was my first. It holds a special place in my heart and on my bookshelf.

  7. Jen – Yes, yes, yes…and yes. 🙂

Anci – I LOVE that series. I can’t wait for book four!

Deanna – I can’t wait to see what you think of the other PNR books you are planning on reading this year 🙂

Jessica – There is something special about our firsts isn’t there?! 😉

  8. The BDB will always top the list,K. Cole’s’Immortals’ series are also ones I re-read alot. L. Iones are my current faves. C.Dodds’Darkness Chosen’ series:another great one-love the Wilder brothers! When I want something funny&sexy I read Lyndsay Sands’Argeneau’ vamps-it’s great-the poor guys are clueless half the time!

  9. Black Dagger Brotherhood, Southern Vampire Series (Sookie Stackhouse), Dark Hunters, IAD.

  10. I definitely think about The Sookie Stackhouse Series (Charlaine Harris) I luv it! This series was the first one I’ve ever read in PNR, if you don’t count the Twilight Saga… But I love The Black Dagger Brotherhood, The Demonica Series… THEY ALL ROCK! =D

  11. Kim – I agree with you about the Argeneau books. And Larissa Ione writes rockin’ PNR!

Sophia – One day I’ll read the Sookie books…maybe…one day. *sigh*

Thali – “THEY ALL ROCK!” Well said. 😉

  12. Even though before last year I didn’t read a lot of PNR – the 1st series that comes to mind is Kresly Cole’s IAD (only because I am hoping to get her new release this week). Not sure if Nalini Singh’s psy-changling qualify and also Nancy Gideon’s Moonlight series are 3 I can think of off the top of my head

  13. Ward, then Frost, then Singh, then Briggs…

    should I keep going? 😉

  14. PNR, well BDB. But I never seem to fall hard for PNR, sad but true, but then came kresley Cole, she turned my ideas upside down 🙂

  15. Judi – The Psy-Changeling series is definitely a PNR…and a good one too! 🙂

Mandi – JR Ward will always come to my mind first because it was my first.

blodeuedd – It’s amazing how many people love the IAD series!

  16. I think 90% of what I read is PNR. So happy it’s popular – wish they had more PNR when I first started reading romances in the 80s. Some of my favorite PNR authors: Sherrilyn Kenyon, Kresley Cole, Gena Showalter, Shelly Laurenston, JAK/Amanda Quick, JR Ward, Ilona Andrews, Alexandra Ivy, MaryJanice Davidson, Nalini Singh, Alyssa Day, Jeanine Frost, Cynthia Eden, Meljean Brook, and Lora Leigh.

  17. I’ve read a least one book from all of these series except for Jeaniene Frost, I haven’t read her before. But when I do think of paranormal, the first to come to mind are Kenyon’s Dark Hunters or Feehan’s Carpathians. Of the series you have posted, it’s a tie for me between Showalter and Ione.

  18. I think of the Demonica series, the BDB series and The Lords of the underworld series… then i think on the others… so many awesome ones!!

  19. Eva – I’m actually not aware of Shelly Laurenston or JAK/Amanda Quick. I’ll have to check them out!

Tasha – I really do have to try Feehan…

Larissa – Those are three of my favorites!

  20. I couldn’t remember if I posted to this or not! I think not! Well I’m adding it to tomorrows Friday Finds :p I’d have to say Psy-Changeling and IAD and Dark-Hunters! I hope your enjoying them if your still reading them?
