My Life’s Quirks – Perusing Goodreads and the Shelves I Find

Goodreads.  Whoever came up with that idea is a freakin’ genius.  I know I said this a couple of weeks about Google Reader, but that was about blogs and Goodread is about books.  Keep up people.  😉

Goodreads is not only great for meeting other readers and researching books to find out whether or not you’d be interested in reading them.  It’s the best place to log all of your books and keep them organized.  Sometimes read piles and to-read piles on real life bookshelves get intermingled and it’s hard to see what books need reading, what books need reviewing and what books need to be placed somewhere special because they were made of awesome.  But on Goodreads, that can’t happen to your piles because well, they are in cyber-land.  Goodreads ‘comes’ with read, to-read and currently-reading shelves, but you can add as many shelves as you want in order to organize your reading self and to help other readers find just what they might be looking for.

I’ve added a couple other pages myself.  I add yearly read pages every January.  For example read-in-2010 and read-in-2011.  It’s an easy way to keep track of how many books I’ve read.  I’ve also added an eagerly-anticipating page.

Sometimes while perusing Goodreads, I come across shelves that others have added…and giggle out right.  Followers of these readers will never be left wondering exactly what the book that was recently read was all about.  Let me share with you some examples of shelves created by Goodreads users that I found to be both funny and amazing.

I have seen shelves named:

blah

avoid

heroine-annoying

hero-expert-skilled-voracious-lover

heroine-i-want-to-bitch-slap

hero-i-want-to-smack

im-a-cover-hottie-ho

sizable-packages

Those are just some of the most memorable Goodread shelves that I’ve come across.  Do you guys have any interesting shelves on your Goodreads page?

Perusing Goodreads and the shelves I find.  Just another one of my life’s quirks.

  1. LOL over the sizeable package. I’m so dull. I have 3 category shelves- to read, read and currently reading. Maybe I need to make it snazzier on my end.

  2. I just added “bearded heroes”!!!!!!

  3. My bookshelves are so boring comparatively! Loving the “im-a-cover-hottie-ho.” 🙂

  4. Katie – Sizable Packages is the one that made me laugh the hardest. lol

Penelope – “Bearded Heroes”! That’s awesome! LOL

Smash Attack – That one is super giggle worthy. 🙂

  5. I have been inspired. I will come up with something awesome. Will report back.

  6. I love goodreads and I’m so glad that my blogger friends, like you, talk about it a lot on twitter. It is amazing and has helped me keep from going insane when it comes to books that I add to my TBR pile. Normally while reading reviews I keep goodreads open that way when I see a book I really want to read I just add it on there instead of writting it down and trying to keep track of them. I am still new so right now my piles only include “Rereads”, “Series” and “Stand-alones” that way when I really just want to read a book that doesn’t have a whole series involved I can just go to that bookshelf and find one to read. Love the unique themes people come up with!

  7. Lily – Can’t wait to hear what you come up with! 🙂

Deanna – The shelves you mentioned are a GREAT idea! Love it!

  8. OMG these shelves just made me LOL so hard. Thank you for that!!!

  9. You made me go to GR and spam 😉 I have all to read books on shelfari so I slowly started to put them all on GR (since I just love the site)

  10. Pamela – 🙂

blodeuedd – I’ve never tried Shelfari, but I’ve heard people like GR better.

  11. LOVE this! I’m pretty sure that a contest should be held at the end of the year for the best “shelf-name”

  12. haha! I had never thought of lining my shelves with great names like those! Great.

  13. heh. Sizable packages. Why didn’t I think of that?

  14. I think you’ve found my friend Shawna’s profile – she’s definitely got an “im-a-cover-hottie-ho” shelf that I love 🙂

  15. Jess – That’s a fun idea! And thanks for planting the idea for this post!

Teri – They are great names!

    Sophia – lol

Mahlet – She is one of my friends with the fun shelves. I LOVE her shelf names! They always make me smile. 🙂

  16. LMAO

    these are perfect!

    hero-expert-skilled-voracious-lover
    heroine-i-want-to-bitch-slap
