Jillian Greene is always getting caught in the act – it’s her job!  Working at Catch a Mate, Jillian gets paid by suspicious wives to smile, flirt and prove that no man can be trusted around the opposite sex.  But she never gets physical – until a heat-stoppingly gorgeous male walks in…

Marcus Brody has just been hired to test females fidelity.  But the last thing Jillian needs is a partner…especially an infuriating, irresistible man who’s got her fantasizing about tearing off his clothes!

I am celebrating this week, and so is Deanna. She has re-launched her blog! It is now called Paperback Daydreamer and you all have to check it out. I invited Deanna to review one of my favorite books today. Take it away Deanna!

I was honored when Julie asked me to do a guest review for her one-year blog anniversary!  I jumped at the chance but I wasn’t sure what book to pick to review. Julie suggested this book and then so kindly sent it to me.  Let me tell you all something, I wasn’t disappointed in the least!  This book had me laughing, tearing up, frustrated, annoyed and it spoke to me on a personal level!

Jillian is a woman who is tortured by her past, a past that has made her build up high walls and major trust issues.  She absolutely hates men, except for her brother Brent, which is why she jumped at the chance to work at Catch a Mate (CAM) to prove that all men were pigs.  Jillian believes that it’s her calling in life to be bait for CAM and show women what their men are truly like.  Marcus also has a tortured soul from his past and has major trust issues.  He doesn’t completely hate women but he does go about trying to prove that women can be just as terrible as men when it comes to infidelity.  He owns a service similar to CAM in Texas only specializing towards helping men catch their cheating significant others.  In the hopes of bringing around some change, CAM’s boss decides to bring Marcus in so it becomes a service that can be offered to worried women AND men.  Put Jillian and Marcus together and we all know we have a recipe for some major clashing!

Showalter is an amazing writer! She has a way of breaking open a character and making you understand them completely.  I loved how she jumped from one character’s point of view to another characters.  When authors do this, I can’t help but love the book that much more!  I love seeing how one character interprets a comment or gesture compared to what the commenter or gesturer was thinking/feeling.  It always shows so much conflict and brings out a more real life feel since people do have a high tendency to misinterpret something, especially when emotions are running high.  I also loved the denial that was soaked into this entire book, it made from some high entertainment!  I enjoyed Showalter not centering the entire book on Marcus and Jillian’s love/hate relationship.  I enjoyed the side story of Brent (Jillian’s brother) and Georgia (Jillian’s best friend).  I loved how so many characters really grew and matured in this book, how many of them healed from old wounds and truly found themselves!

Catch a Mate is an amazing read!  Anyone who enjoys a Hero and a Heroine who are tortured by their past, stubborn as hell, and very passionate need to pick up this book!  If you enjoy contemporary romance and some very smutty scenes (rawr) read this book!  If you have trust issues, read this book…it actually does open your eyes to understand that yeah you should take caution with relationships but not completely turn against them.

The only question I had remaining after this book is – Will Gena Showalter writes a book for Jake, Marcus’ best friend??!!  I want him to have a HEA.  I feel like she might have set it up for a possible book, but I’m slightly dying with curiosity!

The only thought I have remaining (besides wanting to read the book again. now. right this second) is – This is the first Gena Showalter book I’ve read and I can promise you folks, it will NOT be my last!  🙂

Favorite quotes

“Show me your worst, then, sweetheart.  Let me prove that I don’t want you for your pretty face. At least give me a chance.”

“Hangover or not, he still wanted the woman.  There was no denying it.  Employee or not.  Rules or not.  He didn’t want anyone else.  Deep down, he knew only she would do and that scared him.”

“’Stop pretending you don’t like it,’ Marcus suddenly growled, pulling away from her slightly.  His lips hovered above hers.  ‘You want more, you know you do.’

Come back. Kiss me. She couldn’t raise her gaze from his lips. ‘I can’t stand you. Why would I want more?’

‘You may not like me, but you want me.’

Want him…Oh, yes.  Never had a man tasted so good.

Julie here.  I am so glad Deanna loved this book as much as I did.  It really is a hoot with heart.  I am giving away a copy of Catch a Mate to one lucky commenter because I want to share the love!  Simply leave a comment to enter.  This giveaway is open Canada/US only and is on until June 1st 2011 11:59EST.
