Yummy Man – Kerestyan Nelek
Kick Ass Chick – Logan Ellis
After living on the streets of New York for over a decade, Logan admits her perceptions might be a little skewed. But twisted or not, there’s a satisfying irony in watching a well dressed vampire stand in the middle of a ghetto alley, windblown trash scraping circles near his feet. What she finds even more intriguing, is waiting for him to decide if he’s going to kill her.
Kerestyan hasn’t made up his mind. As the Lord of New York, he can’t let a drug addict, whose memories are packed with knowledge of vampires, run free in his city. It’s not the first time he’s been in this situation with a human, it’s just the first time he’s come face to face with one who doesn’t seem to care. And that’s what makes the decision so difficult.
What horrors could you witness before you went numb? How long would it take before you felt that way? What could make you care again?
Logan’s answers are simple: the worst humanity has to offer, almost thirty, and something she never expected.
Eternal Seduction by Jennifer Turner is the first book in her A Darkness Within series. I found this book’s take on vampires and paranormals to be very interesting. It’s difficult to be original in a genre that is so saturated with vamps, but Jennifer managed to keep it new. I must say though that there are a few things in this book that had me go O-o. Let’s get those out of the way then I’ll go on about the details I really enjoyed.
First, I unfortunately didn’t truly feel the connection between this couple. As much as I liked Logan as a character and as much as I found Kerestyan intriguing, I just didn’t feel them mesh. I had trouble getting the idea that a ten thousand year old Ancient Vampire would fall for a homeless drug addict and do it so casually and quickly. But I truly enjoyed the characters. I’ll talk about them a little more in a sec.
Second, there is a part in the story where Logan must get a physical from a vampire doctor dude, Vouclade. She is touched intimately by said doctor dude (who I really didn’t care for) and gets an instant orgasm. Um…shouldn’t she be a little pissered about this? I mean, he’s a doctor and NOT her love interest. Next, he gives her a pelvic exam. Wait, what? Why is there talk of a pelvic exam in a sexy book? That part just eeked me a little.
The last little issue I had was the “only one rule in New York” thing. They are having issues with some newer vampires. Some are killing freely and some are hurting and killing vampire servants. But the only rule is not to let humans know vampires exist. If there are such issues, why doesn’t Kerestyan just say “Whoa! I’m in charge here. I’m going to make one more rule. Don’t kill servants or humans.” That little part had me scratching my head.
Now let’s talk about the good parts – and there are many. As I said earlier, I did enjoy Logan as a character. She is very complicated which makes her fun to know. She is not stupid and knows what her situation is and who is to blame. I thought she was spunky too! And Kerestyan is your Alpha hero who needs to learn to bend a bit for someone else. I thought it was so sweet when he held Logan and helped her through a difficult couple of days. When you read it, you’ll know which scene I mean and you will totally agree with me.
I thought Odin, Kerestyan’s brother, was a hoot! I read that he will get a book and it should be a fun read. I also really liked Drake, even though we didn’t see all that much of him. A nice guy who happens to scare the hell out of paranormal beings. Yes please! And he’s yum!
Oh, and the lovin’ in this book is smokin’! Very hot. That’s all I really have to say about that. *g*
Throughout the book, we learn about the world this series will take place. Trinity (Kerestyan’s blood sister) does explain quite a bit to Logan and it really is interesting. As I said, I found it to be quite unique and the detail was impressive. I liked how it was delivered to the reader too.
Overall, I found Eternal Seduction to be an interesting read filled with some pretty neat characters. The ending was a little odd and I wondered about the why behind it, but it didn’t change my opinion of the book. It’ll be interesting to see how this series develops. Eternal Hearts, book two in the series that just happens to be Drake’s book (*swoon*) just came out yesterday, June 1st 2011. And Eternal Embrace, book 3, is in the works.
Giggle worthy quotes
“’Logan, did you enjoy what happened between us in the kitchen?’
She over exaggerated a nod and when she threw her head back, her skull cracked hard against his clavicle. ‘Oh, yeah. If your little freak of a brother hadn’t shown up when he did you’d have been screaming Logan Ellis all night long. Well, maybe not all night…but a good fifteen minutes at least.’”
“’Don’t feel bad. I just want to make sure you understand, much like your life on the streets, immortality isn’t all roses. I’ve practically stuffed you full of information over the last few days, and you’ve done a really good job absorbing it all, even when you are laughing so hard water shoots out your nose.’
Logan shook her head and smiled. ‘It wasn’t my fault you decided to use the phrase ‘testosterone driven penile fever’ to explain why Kerestyan’s body is cold one minute and hot the next. If you’d just said some of his human body functions kick back when he’s aroused, the water would’ve never gotten into a position where it could shoot out my nostrils.’”
