Silly Stuff – Gotta Love 1960’s Etiquette

I found this over at Awful Library Books.  I’m telling you, being a respectable teen in 1960 must have been quite the feat.  Thank goodness they published ‘how-to’ manuals like this one.

Was it really popular in 1960 to sit around listening to records…while drinking milk?  And what’s with the chef’s hat?  What is he cooking and where?  I can’t spot it.

I know of a few people who could use this check list today.  *g*

Tee hee

I only have one thing to say about this.  And that is simply:  EW!

I wonder how many teenage boys’ rooms look like this in 2011?  Not many I would wager.  lol

It is a compliment to her date that she be ready when he shows up.  Well, good for her.  😉

  1. Yikes, should do something about my nails and untidy hair 😉

  2. This is more 1950’s than 60’s! And no way will my bed ever look that neat and all folded in. Freaked me out!

  3. I confess, I make mitered corners on my bed. I went to college for nursing and I had an ex-army nurse for an instructor. Need I say more?
You can bounce a quarter on my bed and catch it on the first bounce. I got a 4.0 in bed-making.

  4. blodeuedd – LOL!

Ally – You are right, it is more 50’s. But the book was published in 1960. 🙂

Dot – I bed your rooms look great! 😉

  5. MichelleKCanada says:

hee hee that is great. Sometimes I wish my boys could pick up some of those grooming habits. I admit it. LOL

Being a teen today is so hard. I never lived in the era above but I sure wouldn’t want to be a teen in this era.

It is wrong that I read the instructions on how to make that bed?

    Great post!

  6. Ha…I love this!! You have the best “silly stuff”. Ok ok, I’ll admit it but I believe I’m a old soul because I think some of this stuff should apply today, like the “soap & water” clean thing – I simply can emphasize that enough.

As for the prune cup salad things – eww!! We can totally leave those in 1960!

  7. Michelle – Hell, sometimes I wish my husband would pick up some of those grooming habits! He’s great during the week, but something about weekends… It’s an odd thing how the weekends seem to mean ‘no grooming needed pass’ 😉

Isalys – Yes. Let’s leave those there. Ew!

  8. *snicker* I would love to go back in time and see who really used these books… I think it was all propaganda! Although I think maybe Richie Cunningham listen to records while drinking milk!

  9. LOL. My room doesn’t even look like that. The check list cracks me up. The prune salad…ew on my end too! I think he’s cooking the hotdogs….I think. 😛
